Olives are well known for containing healthy monounsaturated fats and an abundance of phytonutrients but they are not usually associated with having an effect on the microbiome. However, being a fermented food, they also provide bacteria such as lactobacilli, a gut-friendly bacteria. So apart form being heart healthy and packed with antioxidants, a good reason to snack on olives is to support gut health.
