Iron can be one of the trickiest minerals to maintain at optimum level in your body – especially for women and even more so for vegetarians. If you eat iron-rich foods or supplement, make sure you leave a gap of at least an hour before drinking any black or green tea. Tannins in tea inhibit absorption of iron, so swap for a fresh OJ as vitamin C does the reverse – it promotes absorption of iron! If you can’t be bothered to make fresh juice, just eat an orange or a handful of strawberries, papaya, peppers, kale or broccoli.
